Weekly Challenge freebie #11: Not for Hire

cover3Well…here’s number eleven. For the second time I’m falling back on one of the September stories. I actually have two new stories near completion, but I also have a sick daughter who told me she’s lonely. So there’s that, and she wins for today.

I’m also trying something a little different. I keep reaching a point at which my brain tells my fingers to stop typing for a bit. I’ve been going for a walk, or working on something besides writing when this happens…but now that we’re in Juneau (oh yeah! Alaska!) I have this theory that I might be able to just switch to another story, or another novel, and keep typing for a higher percentage of the day. Will it work? I dunno. But a couple of my recent stories have felt a little rushed, and giving myself another week to get the writin’ engine up to speed just strikes me as a good idea. And settling in to the office is good too. I’m hoping for great things. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Anyway, here’s the story:

Not for Hire

Just straight crime fiction this time. Um…don’t try this at home?

[REDACTED 10/12/2015]

I’m making many of my stories Amazon-only for a while. Their “Kindle Unlimited” deal is very nice for short fiction. I hate to leave people out if they prefer buying stuff at non-Amazon sites, but…(1) nearly all sales and downloads, for me, have always come from Amazon, (2) while I’ve had issues with Amazon, they’ve been very responsive in dealing with them, (3) I can’t say that for any other online distributor (well, Smashwords is actually pretty nice), and (4) this may boost visibility at Amazon…kind of the core of my business. If you really really hate the idea, please let me know.

Your stories: even more enjoyable the second time around. I suppose it’s the part of me that is un-well but I laugh out loud at how Zack’s mind works. I see myself in how I have “hatched” plans in my mind to make some real money and oops there goes gravity, back to reality (kudos to Eminem for a great line). The part that makes me laugh the most: ” uhm…don’t try this at home? ” Thanks David for another great afternoon of reading!

Thanks! Yep, he’s a goofball. I’m actually working on a sequel…one of several stories in the works simultaneously, so we’ll see what happens. {8’>
